Kansas Senate Democratic Leader Calls for a Vote on Medicaid Expansion

Topeka, Kans. — Kansas Senate Democratic Leader Dinah Sykes made a motion on Friday to advance Senate Bill 355 and allow a full debate and vote on Medicaid expansion.

“Kansans across the state have been loud and clear this session: they want Medicaid expansion,” Kansas Senate Democratic Leader Dinah Sykes, D-Lenexa, said. “With this motion, we’re answering their call for action on Medicaid expansion by supporting a full debate and vote on the Senate floor.”

Legislators will vote on the motion to allow a full debate and vote on Medicaid expansion when they return for the veto session on April 26th. The motion must receive at least 24 votes for SB 355 to be debated and voted on.

“Kansans deserve to know where their legislators stand on Medicaid expansion,” Sykes said. “I hope my Republican colleagues will do the right thing and allow every Senator the opportunity to debate Medicaid expansion on the floor and put it up to a vote.”
