Lynn Rogers officially files to run against Sen. Michael O’Donnell
TOPEKA – Lynn Rogers, of Wichita, today officially filed with the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office to run against Sen. Michael O’Donnell for the Senate’s 25th District, which includes a portion of Sedgwick County.
“It’s time for the 25th district to have a leader who is mature, has integrity, and has the ability to empathize with struggling families in our community,” said Rogers.
Rogers had been a Republican, but changed parties back in August. He is running for the seat as a Democrat.
“When public education and doing the right thing became a partisan issue, it became clear to me which side I was on – and it wasn’t the Governor’s,” said Rogers.
Rogers is retiring at the end of October after 35 years in banking to focus on his campaign. He and his wife Kristine have lived in the Riverside neighborhood for the past 30 years. They have three adult children – two sons and a daughter – all of whom are graduates of Wichita North High School. His community involvement began with volunteering for the PTO when his children were in elementary school.
He is currently serving his fourth term on the school board for Wichita Public Schools. He and his wife are also active at First Baptist Church, where they have volunteered at the monthly community breakfast for nearly 20 years. Rogers is also a member of the Kansas Association of School Boards and the Council of Great City Schools.
