Senator Oletha Faust-Goudeau

About Oletha

Senator Oletha Faust-Goudeau, is a lifelong resident of the City of Wichita and attends Evening Light Church of God. She was employed by PCA International for 16 years, studied at Wichita State University, majoring in pre-law and has always advocated for fairness and equality.

As an active member of our community, she serves on many executive boards, Wichita Habitat for Humanity, POWER CDC, Kansas Legal Services and the Wichita Children’s Home Advisory board. She also chaired the committee that raised funds to erect a memorial monument at the actual site for the 30 people who were killed in the KC-135 Piatt Street Plane Crash on January 16, 1965, known as “The Worst Military Aviation Disaster in Kansas History.”

She serves on the Advisory Board for KPTS Channel 8, she is the Vice President for the Women of Color Association, and she is a member of the NAACP, the League of Women Voters, and the Women’s Democratic Club. She is involved with her Neighborhood Association and is a financial Supporter for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Program. In 1997, she was appointed by former Mayor Bob Knight to serve on the Human Services Advisory Board for the City of Wichita.

In 2004, she was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives as the first African American Woman to represent the 84th District. In 2008, she was elected as the first African American woman to ever serve in the Kansas Senate in state history. Senator Faust-Goudeau was featured in the Wichita Eagle as “10 to WATCH” in 2009, to effect change and make a difference in our community.

During her first term in the Kansas Legislature, she introduced the Grandparents as Care Givers Act, which was signed into law by former Governor Kathleen Sebelius. Most recently, Governor Sam Brownback signed four bills into law sponsored or Co-sponsored by Sen. Faust-Goudeau, including one that extends healthcare benefits to the spouse and children of fallen firefighters.

Senator Faust-Goudeau, is honored to represent the 29th district in the Kansas Senate. But, she is most proud of her role as the mother of her two daughters, Larissa & Paris, who are both college students and two of her best critics.
